| The install new font(s) dialog is a pain the ass and I never use it. Ray is 'right' with his method, but there is an even more efficient way. Select all the fonts you want to install, then RIGHT DRAG THEM into the Windows\fonts folder. If you right drag 'em Windows will give you a context menu giving you the choice to 'copy', 'move' or 'create shortcut(s) here'. Choose 'copy' and the font files will be copied--a waste of space. Choose 'move' and the .ttf's will be moved--a further recipie for disaster. But choose 'create shortcut(s) here' and what used to be called .fot, or stub files will be created in the windows\fonts folder. The stubs, or shortcuts, point to the true location of the fonts, thus obviating the need to copy them font files and saving disc space. 'Tis the only way to fly, boys 'n girls.
And yes, registering 400 fonts in Windows, no matter which version, is a step in the wrong direction. Maximum you can is around 410 - 412, depending on how long the internal font names are. 400 will slow windows right down, and it makes the font list that much longer in applications, making selection of fonts a tiresome and lenghty business.
